City of Edinburgh Pipe Band The City of Edinburgh Pipe Band was originally called the Woolmet and Danderhall Colliery band and drew pipers and drummers from the mining and surrounding community. Now called the City of Edinburgh Pipes and Drums, the band has been in continuous existence since 1947. Apart from playing at local events and pipe band competitions, the band has traveled as far as Indonesia and California. For a period of 10 years the band played under the name of Scottish/British Gas and has performed on many occasions for the company, including the stock market flotation of the company at the London Stock Exchange. The band plays every year at Celtic festivals in Brittany and Northern Spain. The band has also performed a number of times live on stage with Runrig, accompanying on the title track of a recent album - The Stamping Ground. What makes the band unique is that many of the band members are multi-instrumentalists, which has enabled the band to reach out to a wider audience with an exciting varied presentation of traditional music. The band has developed a concert style of pipe band playing with a backing band and percussion effects. The Betty Swallocks ceilidh band has been playing at weddings, concerts and ceilidh dances since 1990. All the members are pipers and drummers in the City of Edinburgh Pipe Band and can double up on other instruments, including fiddle, bass, bouzouki, keyboards, small pipes and percussion. Bagpipers of Distinction can tailor band to meet your requirements, in terms of the number of bodies and the instruments you wish to be played at your event.
